Foundation degrees
Part of our Directory of legal education in the UK, this page includes information about foundation degrees.
The foundation degree, a vocationally focused intermediate level higher education qualification, was launched in 2001. Foundation degrees aim to increase the number of people qualified at associate professional level, for example legal executives, developing in particular:
- work specific skills
- key skills, for example communication and problem solving
- generic skills such as reasoning, professionalism and work process management
Students who have successfully completed a foundation degree in law may be allowed to progress onto the second year of a qualifying law degree.
See Foundation Degree Forward and Foundation Degree Forward higher education for further information. Directories of foundation degrees are produced by Foundation Degree Forward and UCAS.
